Centres of Excellence - Oil and Gas

NLC's Oil and Gas Centre of Excellence opened in 2007, reaffirmed by the provincial government in 2012

The $12-million Jim Kassen Industry Training Centre, located at the Fort St. John Campus, is home to the Centre of TrainingSimulated Well Site Training facility Excellence for Oil and Gas as well as several Trades and Apprenticeship programs. 

The Industry Training Centre includes extensive hands-on learning opportunities available through the Simulated Well Site Training facility, as well as a full-sized drilling rig donated by Nabors Canada in 2012. The facility prepares students to enter the oil and gas industry and support the growth of B.C.’s economy.

Currently NLC offers the following energy related programming at the Fort St. John Campus: Oil and Gas Field Operations, Power Engineering and Gas Processing, ElectricianHeavy Duty TechnicianIndustrial Instrumentation Mechanic, along with other Apprenticeship and Foundation Trades programs.

The Centre of Excellence, meanwhile, is designed to  500 Internal Server Error

The Centre of Excellence includes a Steering Committee, Secretariat, and Working Group Committees.The mandate of the Steering Committee will be to facilitate cross-jurisdictional collaborations aimed at building the capacity and improving the responsiveness of the post secondary education system to address oil and gas education and training needs in the province of British Columbia.
